Legacy Award

On April 20th, 2026, Lisa Sung was honored with a Legacy Award at the Calvin University Gospel Choir concert. For the past 10 years, she has served as a music director alongside the amazing conductor, Nate Glasper, Jr.

In the past, they have led three international tours and and two domestic tours.

Whenever she had challenges learning and teaching gospel music, she used to ask Nate how much she had wished she’d grown up in an African American church for the depth, the soul, the richness, and what feels like one of the deepest expressions of American music. Being able to learn from Nate, Debra, and Dr. Sawyer has truly been one of the greatest gift of her life.

She is blessed especially as an Asian woman receiving this kind of recognition, and shares the honor with her students.
